Issues the GSG is currently working on:
It is the GSG's mission to advocate for a better graduate student life. With
this in mind, these are the foremost policy issues we have identified: housing,
parking and transportation, and stipends. In time, other issues may become a
priority.
| Housing: |
Housing continues to be a pressing concern for UMCP grad students. Stipends
are not keeping up with the area's cost of living. The GSG continues to
pressure officials at the University level and above to provide safe, affordable
housing for graduate students. A Presidential Task Force on Housing has been meeting
to determine the best course of action for pressing this issue. |
| Transportation: |
Transportation is a daily concern for most graduate students. A Presidential
Task Force on Transportation has been meeting to continue to press for better
transportation options for graduate students. |
| Stipends: |
Graduate student stipends do not adequately reflect the value we bring to the
University. Additionally, stipends are not keeping up with our peer institutions,
especially when the area's cost of living is factored in. We strongly believe that the
University will continue to lose good prospective graduate students unless they are
offered better financial packages. |

Student Affairs Committee website.
Many of our issues are addressed in the Student
Affairs Graduate Student Services Task Force Final Report (.pdf file).
