Nominate yourself or a deserving fellow graduate student for the University Graduate Student Distinguished Service Award. The award celebrates graduate students who have made outstanding contributions to the University community. Nominations, including a letter of nomination highlighting the criteria above and any supporting materials (e.g., vitae, letters) are due by Friday, Feb. 27 at 5:00pm. GRID is a conference-style event for graduate students to get feedback on their research and hone their conference skills in the comparative intimacy of their own campus. Prizes will be awarded to winners in each theme category. For GRID 2008, a total of $15,000 was given in prizes. Register and submit an abstract of your research here. The final deadline for submissions is March 15 by 5:00pm. Two entries submitted by March 1 will be selected for "early bird" prizes of gift cards. Early submission shall also guarantee your space at GRID.

You can now securely submit an event, a news item, or a link that you think should be on the website! Just go to www.gsg.umd.edu/login to start the process. You will be asked to submit your directory id (e.g. xxx for an email xxx [at] umd [dot] edu) before being forwarded to the University wide login system (your password is not kept by GSG at any point!)

Each year the President's Commission on Women's Issues (PCWI) honors outstanding women on our campus for their exemplary contributions and positive impact at the University of Maryland and its community. The PCWI had created an award for graduate students. We would like to encourage you to nominate outstanding graduate students who have made significant contributions. When Graduate Gardens and Graduate Hills were privatized back in 1994, this created a revenue stream for the University. 30% of all rents paid go back to the University, and this has yielded the University a total of $13.5 million.

Available housing for university graduate students should have doubled this month with the planned opening of the Mazza Grandmarc apartment complex. Instead, the proposed site in north College Park remains empty due to a prolonged negotiation between the developer and Prince George's County Councilman Tom Dernoga.
