The Joseph M. Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Award provides one-time awards of up to $1,000 to undergraduate or graduate students whose ability to succeed at our institution may be challenged by some personal or family circumstance.

"When the university unveiled its strategic plan two years ago, it was a strong sign it was finally acknowledging that compensation -- including stipends, salaries and benefits -- was too low for graduate students. A report issued by an 18-member committee examining the treatment of graduate assistants at public universities in the state essentially came to the same conclusion, a strong indicator change is needed in how graduate assistants are treated at this university. Along with the launch of the online Event Funding Request system are several other improvements. Most importantly is the full introduction of the student login and suggestion pages. There are also plans to improve the ability to share links, show Graduate Student Spotlights, and improve the GRID interface in preparation for GRID 2010.

"The first draft of the university's new Diversity Strategic Plan is far from perfect, university officials admitted.
After an initial draft was released Thursday, students charged the plan with being too vague, lofty and dismissive of certain underrepresented populations, including graduate students, international students and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, among others." The Stamp Advisory Board is accepting applications for new members. The SAB advises The Stamp's Director on all matters affecting the Adele H. Stamp Student Union - Center for Campus Life. The Diversity Plan will be presented at the "Moving Diversity Forward" Town Hall meeting on October 27, 2009. To prepare for the event the Diversity Committee of the GSG is soliciting feedback on the draft (which should be available here on the 20th), and your opinions regarding the role graduate students should play.

The Graduate Student Affairs Committee (GSAC) of the GSG is gathering your tax questions about the special situation that graduate students are in. If you have had trouble filling out your state or federal tax returns, or just have general questions, the GSG will try to help! Once some questions are gathered, the Committee will attempt to compile a list of answers and post them online.
