29th Annual Kickball Tournament

The 29th Annual Graduate Kickball Tournament will take place Friday, October 23rd between 4pm and 7pm at the Engineering Fields (in front of the Engineering Building by Route 1 and Campus Drive). This tournament is being sponsored by the Graduate Student Government and Campus Recreational Services. All graduate students are welcome and registration is free. There will be t-shirts for the winning team! To register, please send an email with the subject line "kickball tournament registration" to nguyent [at] umd [dot] edu with your team name and a list of team members and their academic departments. The first IONS (International OSA Network of Students) conference in North America, to be held at the University of Maryland, will provide students with the opportunity to learn about optics-related research, acquire professional skills, and network with researchers. This event is open to students who pre-registered for the conference. This event is funded in part by your Graduate Student Activities Fee.

 

Dissertation Support Group

Many graduate students experience "deadlock" while working through the dissertation process, and students are often overwhelmed by the size and scope of the academic task. Therefore, the Learning Assistance Service of the University Counseling Center will be offering a Dissertation Support Group to help graduate students develop goals and sustain progress toward the completion of the research project. The group will meet twice a month beginning Wednesday, Sept. 16, and will meet 4:30-6:00pm in 3125 South Campus Dining Hall. Maya Angelou Lecture

SEE, Stamp Special Events and ODK present "An Evening with Dr. Maya Angelou." Doors open at 6:30pm and the lecture begins at 7:00pm. Dr. Angelou will be speaking about ethics, religious and cultural diversity, and a host of other topics. Tickets are $5 with a UMD ID and $15 for all others. Ticket sales begin Monday, Sept. 14 at the Hoff Ticket Office or online through the Hoff's ticketing site.
