My name is Xiaoming Liu. I am a first year graduate student in the department of Geology. I am running for the position of VP for Community Development on the executive committee of the Graduate Student Government.
My priority for next year is getting more graduate students interested in and involved in our GSG activities. As a graduate TA, I understand most graduate students have to work long hours to do well in their research and teaching duties. The pursuit of excellence sometimes leaves us no or very little time for social or recreational activities. But I always believe an old saying “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. So I hope to organize more interesting social and recreational activities to improve the quality of our life as graduate students.
Jeremy Bellucci

I (Jeremy Bellucci) am announcing my candidacy for Vice President for Community Development in the Graduate Student Government. I am a second year Ph.D. student in geology and am a frequenter of “Grad Pub.” I currently active on campus as an intercollegiate competitor in “Terpwushu”. My previous government/administrative experience includes: President (University of Illinois Geology Club 2004-2006), Vice-President/Co-instructor (University of Illinois Wushu Club, 2004-2006), Historian (University of Illinois, Zeta Psi-Alpha Epsilon Chapter 2003), and Social chair (University of Illinois, Zeta Psi-Alpha Epsilon Chapter 2004).
My goals for this office include the encouragement of inter-departmental/disciplinary mingling; encourage political/cultural diversity throughout the graduate school, and to help increase the morale of the Graduate Student body.
Bethany Applebaum

I am Ph.D student in the Department of Anthropology. Having completed my M.A. here, I have now been on this campus for 3 years. Serving as VP of community development would provide me with an opportunity to give back to the school, the graduate student community, and my classmates in a leadership role. I have always been active in student life. I have held multiple leadership positions with one of my alma mater's service organizations (including social chair), both as a student and as an alumnus. In addition, I have experience organizing all-campus events and currently serve as an advisor to undergraduate social organizations and committees, giving me a significant amount of experience with teamwork, achieving objectives, and working efficiently and effectively. I welcome the opportunity to integrate the skills I have developed in other positions with the GSG.
