Event Description: |
Mayfest 2006 is a Language Learning Fest, a 2-day
workshop (May 12th and 13th) devoted to research on the role of input
and how it is processed by children in first language acquisition. Its
two principal aims are (i) to bring together language acquisition
researchers representing theoretical, experimental and computational
approaches, and (ii) to promote discussions and interactions among
researches with different perspectives so as to further our
understanding of the field. |

Marita Sturken, professor in the department of culture and communications at NYU and Editor of "American Quarterly," is giving a lecture on
her upcoming book. This talk examines the way in which American culture encourages a "tourist" relationship to history, one that reveals the deep investment in the concept of innocence in American culture. |

A graduate student in astronomy will be presenting her
research on the spurs and feathers observed in the M51 galaxy. She has
performed surveys of other spiral galaxies to see how common these
features are. These structures are believed to be caused by gravitational
instabilities. This talk will be in preparation for her thesis proposal. |
