Grievances
Graduate students at the University of Maryland, College Park have suffered abuses for many years. Unfortunately, these abuses have become too common and are viewed as "part of the grad school experience". The University provides no basic grievance procedures for graduate students or graduate assistants. There are some basic policies and guidelines but most of these are too vague and do not provide any concrete support for graduate students in distress.
For over a year, the Graduate School has supposedly been working on a grievance procedure. The GSG, despite repeated attempts, is only sporadically consulted by the Graduate School on this process. We are taking our own steps to minimize graduate grievances. All graduate students with grievance issues are encouraged to talk to the GSG President and other executives.
