What is the GSG?
The Graduate Student Government is the only campus organization sponsored,
staffed and run exclusively by graduate students. If you are a graduate
student, you are automatically a member of the GSG, and your Student Activity
Fee goes directly to the funding of this organization. We are completely
independent of the university administration, and we report only to the
graduate student body. We advocate for graduate students on and off campus,
bringing our concerns to University officials, USM officials, the Board
of Regents, and lawmakers.
Other functions of the GSG include funding of events
organized by registered graduate student groups, and sponsoring of various
social events, including Payday Grad Pub. There
are lots of ways to become involved in
the GSG, ranging from simply dropping by one of our Payday
Grad Pubs on bi-weekly Friday evenings to running for elected office.
Please browse the links on the website for more information. The GSG
can only function with the participation and feedback of the graduate
student community at the University of Maryland. Contact us at gsg-office@umd.edu
or 301-314-8630 if you have any questions or concerns.
Our Structure:
Like many governmental organizations, we have three branches:
|
Important Documents:
Changes to the Bylaws require approval of the GSG Assembly and GSG President.
Changes to the Constitution require a vote of the Graduate Student Body.
|
Senate:
The University Senate has senators
from all constituency groups on campus. There are currently 9
Graduate Senators.
Check out the University's
Diversity Movie. It features the GSG as an example of student involvement.
